Throughout the semester in my IS 130 online class, I’ve been exposed to business related concepts that involves information technology. From software to principles, this course has taught me to not only think as a “techy” person but also as a businessman. In this online course, my favorite assignments included the PC Configuration activity and the Design: DSS with Microsoft Excel.
The PC Configuration activity involved picking the ideal laptop make/model that best suits the business’s needs while being able to run SAP Lumira efficiently. This assignment was considered to be the most fun out of all of the assignments given to us so far since I often look up computer parts online in my spare time. Being able to do something that I like to do as an assignment is always welcome and appreciated! It makes it much more enjoyable.
The second assignment revolves around the use of Microsoft Excel to implement a model that uses a business’s financial information to see trends, problems and solutions. A useful tool, Excel is a great tool to use for this particular assignment. By modifying certain parts of the model (payrolls, margin) we are able to determine the best course of action to increase the profits of the company. This assignment was interesting because of how we are given a business problem and have to use software to help solve it.
